Teen Girl Faces Assault Charges After Tossing Baby Carrot at Teacher

According to WTVR, a 14-year-old middle school student may be charged for battery after tossing a baby carrot at a former teacher.

One day after leaving class, Aliya May was strolling through the hallway and noticed a teacher she had the year before. Thinking it would be a funny practical joke, she reached for a baby carrot left over from her lunch and lobbed it in her direction.

She never imagined it would hit her in the forehead.

Nevertheless, she was disciplined. Moody Middle School documents assert that May was using that baby carrot as a weapon to assault her teacher. Since the incident, the teenager has been out of school on suspension for an entire month.

“I don’t understand this,” said her mother, Karrie. “Yes, it happened, and I can see a couple of days in school detention or even a couple days out-of-school suspension.  But this goes way beyond that. We have to go to court, and her charges aren’t small: assault and battery with a weapon.”

The school has declined to comment on the incident.

“I don’t even know how to combat the stupidity,” Karrie added.
