The Body Farm: Where Forensic Scientists Study the Decay of Human Corpses

WARNING: Extremely graphic footage. Viewer discretion is advised.

It’s called a body farm–an open-air crime lab where forensic scientists study decomposing human bodies to help detectives solve murders.

Hundreds of bodies are donated to body farms each year, where they are exposed to the elements and left to rot. At first glance, it may appear to be the place where serial killers dump their victims, but it’s all in the name of science.

This kind of setting allows scientists to replicate murder scenes in realistic settings.

At any given time, there are anywhere from 100 to 200 bodies strewn across the landscape.
