The Ultimate Horseback Riding Adventures

Can you say, “Giddy up!”? If you have a passion for horseback riding, but you rarely have time to indulge in your love of horses, you might consider combining your favorite hobby with your next vacation.

How do you know where to find the best horseback riding vacation spots? That’s easy-you just need to know where to look. Check out Writing Horseback, founded by Nancy D. Brown.

Nancy is a self-proclaimed “horse-crazy” fan/equestrian expert. She took her favorite two passions (travel and horses) and used them to become a guide to the best equestrian-based lodging properties and resorts out there. Nancy travels world-wide in search of the best resorts offering quality riding opportunities for visitors.

Her website serves as a place to blog about her travels, or places she thinks are worth a visit. Readers can comment or ask questions. She updates her website frequently, posting about local locations like Del Mar, California all the way to far-reaching Patagonia, Argentina.

You truly get a feel for the properties and the horseback riding through her adventures. Here’s an excerpt from her Del Mar post:

Are you looking for a horseback riding vacation in Del Mar, California? This is the land of beautiful people, fast horses, and white sand beaches.

Hotel Indigo features horse racing inspired elements throughout the design, including the Stairway to Greatness of legendary racing horses and a giant pop art mural of the jockeys embarking once they raise the gate in the main dining room.

Horse racing enthusiasts will want to take advantage of the free shuttle to the San Diego County Fair and Del Mar Race Track. Interested guests may inquire at the front desk for departure times.

The hotel’s restaurant, The Ocean View Bar & Grill, is the spot for pre- and post-race track cuisine.

While I have not been to Rancho El Camino Equestrian Center, or Hotel Indigo, Rancho El Camino looks like a luxurious place to visit and take a horseback riding lesson.

When she’s not traveling, Nancy makes her home in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and two teenagers. She writes the “What a Trip” travel blog and authors a column by the same name for the Contra Costa Times, Lamorinda Sun, a publication of Media News Group. She is the Lodging Editor for and covers luxury travel for Hotel Scoop. She also writes an online travel column for Diablo magazine and owns a public relations consulting business.
