Three-Year-Old Boy Shoots Both Parents with a Single Bullet

A New Mexico toddler shot both his mother and father with a single bullet from a handgun, after pulling the gun from his mother’s handbag on Saturday. The incident took place Saturday in the family’s motel room in an Albuquerque America’s Best Value Inn.

The three-year-old boy was reportedly reaching for an iPod, according to the BBC. The single bullet that was fired passed through the father’s buttocks and hit the mother, who is pregnant, in the arm. The boy’s two-year-old sister, also present in the room, was unharmed, and both parents are currently in recovery.

BBC reports:

Justin Reynolds told NBC News station KOB he and his girlfriend Monique Villescas were about to order a pizza when he heard the shot.

“The next minute I realised my girlfriend was bleeding. Then I sat down and realised I was shot too.”

He called emergency services and tried to staunch Ms Villescas’s bleeding with towels…

“I was more worried about my girlfriend than myself and anything else that was going on. And my son because I didn’t know if he had shot himself or not. He was shocked and crying. It was traumatising.”

Reynolds has been released from the hospital, and Villescas is still in recovery from the incident.
