Tim McGraw isn’t known to have a violent disposition; certainly not towards women. With songs like “Don’t Take the Girl” and “Just to See You Smile” he’s got more of a reputation as a lover than a fighter.
So it makes sense that a recent video clip of him straight up slapping a female fan on the face comes as a surprise. But before you go giving him a hard time, let us try to explain what was going on.
The country crooner was moving through the audience performing his mega hit, “Truck Yeah,” when someone grabbed hold of his knee and wouldn’t let go. After being jerked back by the fan’s firm hold, he reacted by taking a swing in the general direction of the pull. Then, as DC 101 put it, he “gave her the universal ‘what the hell?’ expression.”
The 47-year-old’s rep also put out an official statement to TMZ: “Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn’t let go as he was moving through the crowd. He instinctively swatted to try to keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing!), and so he could get to more fans who could slap hands with him before the end of the show.”
We’re disappointed, but we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. By the looks of it, he was as puzzled and surprised by his reaction as we were, as soon as the moment passed.
