The polls so far in the presidential race have been pretty closely tied, so it will definitely be a tense time come November! Though Republican candidate Donald Trump has become something of a source of entertainment for many following the race, with jokes about his appearance or his bizarre way of forming sentences for example, it’s important to remember this guy may actually be the next president… and if that does become a reality what does he have in store for the US?

Trump has stated that he wants to have a ‘complete and total shutdown’ of Muslims entering the US, until they can ‘figure out what the hell is going on’ (eloquently put as ever…). Then there’s his precious wall… Trump plans to build a ‘big, fat, beautiful’ wall to stop Mexicans illegally entering the US. If you’re worrying about the cost, don’t – according to him Mexico are going to pay for it!

Given the tragic gun-related events that have taken many lives throughout the US recently, this one is of course a big interest right now. Well, as you probably already know, Trump is a big supporter of the 2nd amendment, and has even gone as far as to say that there should be no limits on guns as they save lives. Though, contradictory to that statement is his remark that enemies of the state will be kept away from guns.

Trump hasn’t sugarcoated his words when it comes to his opinion on the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, he’s said it has been a ‘disaster’, and if he gets into office he will repeal the act. However, he’s said that he does plan on getting treatment for uninsured Americans, stating – “I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”

Trump seems to be a little confused on his own policies when it comes to this one; last November he stated that the minimum wage should not be raised as it makes America non-competitive, but in May this year he questioned how people survived on $7.25, and said the minimum wage should be raised. He has vowed to be “the greatest jobs president that God ever created”, and plans to “bring back our jobs from China, from Mexico, from Japan”…

Trump has stated that he is pro-life, and he caused outrage earlier this year when he suggested that abortion should be banned, and women who had undergone the procedure should be given ‘some sort of punishment’. He also plans to defund Planned Parenthood, despite admitting the organisations helps millions of people.

Though he is against legalising cannabis for recreational use, Trump has stated that legalization should be studied (whatever that means), and that use in medical situations ‘is another thing’ – he supports using the drug in hospitals.
