TV Reporter’s ‘Alphabet Aerobics’ Rap Before Live Broadcast Goes Viral

Like athletes who must stretch and prepare their muscles before a game, news reporters must limber up too—but in a different way. In order to deliver their stories clearly and professionally, there are a lot of vocal exercises and tongue twisters that are the standard tricks of the trade.

One reporter from Odessa, Texas, has a special talent which she’s adopted in order to warm-up her voice—and it’s a little more complex than the run-of-the-mill tongue twister. Kim Powell was caught on camera rapping “Alphabet Aerobics” by Blackalicious before a live shot. She was about to report on a story for KWES when she broke out her rap skills.

She totally nailed it, covering the song in its entirety before finishing with a well-deserved mic-drop.  It wasn’t a part of her report, but according to Powell’s Facebook page she does usually do a rap to warm-up. Powell said she had no idea her hilarious pre-report ritual was about to go viral. We’re really glad it did.

According to a report from My San Antonio, Powell is overwhelmed by the sudden attention calling it “one of the strangest days” of her life.
