People in Cape Town, South Africa were freaked out and snap-happy Sunday when they saw these bizarre formations in the sky. Everyone thought UFOs were about to descend on their city.
What the Internet is now calling “UFO Clouds” are actually “lenticular clouds.” These rarely seen cloud formations are caused by high, humid winds blow over mountainous terrain. When they pass over mountains, the air cools down, causing the water vapor to condense into droplets. The air surrounding the droplets still flows while the spot where the moisture condenses stays stationary. The flow of air and wind simultaneously turns the condensation into disc-like shapes.
So, worry guys, there’s no UFO takeover happening on Earth — at least not yet!
