A young mother is speaking out about a brutal attack she endured in front of her two year old son at the hands of a fast-food worker and former coworker.
Laita Harris, a 25-year-old McDonalds worker allegedly attacked 27-year-old Catherine Ferreira due to work place gossip, leaving her with several scars, a broken nose and a concussion. The whole attack was caught on camera.
In the video, which was obtained by police off of Facebook before being deleted, Ferreira can be seen on the ground while Harris punches her approximately 20 times. While bystanders, several of whom are thought to be teenagers, took out their phones and recorded the incident, Ferriera’s two-year-old son was the only one who attempted to rescue her.
The video shows the toddler yelling at the suspect to stop and then kicking her in an attempt to get her to stop. Harris is heard on the video saying “You better get your son before I kick him in the face too!”
Speaking to reporters about the incident, Ferreira says of her child’s brave attempt to intervene, “he didn’t care what was going on. He wasn’t afraid, just wanted to defend his mom. That’s my world right there. I love that boy so much.”
Although authorities are still looking for the suspect, who has not reported to work since the incident took place, according to Salem City Police Chef John Pelura, she faces charges of aggravated assault and two counts of terrorist threats.
