We’re used to seeing zebras in zoos or in exotic photos from African safaris, but what if zebras had been domesticated and were as common now as horses?
These vintage photos offer a glimpse into the past, when society believed this was possible. In the early 1900s, the English firmly believed that they could turn zebras into the modern-day horse of the age.
It looks downright strange to see a zebra pulling a cart, and people attempting to ride them.
Thankfully for zebras, this practice of trying to tame these beautiful wild creatures didn’t catch on for use in transportation. The attempts to domesticate them were ultimately more harm than good for the animals.
