A 19-year-old woman in Poland woke up during her own brain surgery, but don’t worry, it’s chill. Instead of panicking, the woman simply asked the doctors how the surgery was going so far.
Iga Jasica was undergoing the procedure to remove a cancerous growth from her brain. Doctors say she woke up in the middle of surgery when the anesthetic wore off too soon. Operators insist her life was not in any danger due to the rude awakening.
“Despite coming round, she didn’t feel anything and was never in danger,” said treating neurosurgeon Dawid Larysz before adding that Jasica was unable to see or feel anything when she came to.
Jasica claims she doesn’t remember waking up during the surgery. She and the doctor apparently had a pretty pleasant conversation, despite the minor caveat that her pulsing, bloody brain was exposed for the whole world to see.
“I can’t remember much but the doctor said he talked to me about cats, which I love,” she said.
Doctors are still struggling to understand how Jasica woke up during the surgery. The Daily Mail reports:
Doctors say it is possible that the brain surgery caused neurons to trigger which could have woken Miss Jesica up, but investigators are probing whether the anesthetic was administered incorrectly. Medics added that it was extremely unusual for a patient to come round during surgery, especially while their brain was exposed.
