After releasing five singles and one whole album, Taylor Swift debuted the second video off her album, Red, yesterday.
The video for “Begin Again” was directed by Declan Whitebloom and shot in picturesque Paris. Unlike her first single and video “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which had a pop sound and a high energy filled video, this single sees Swift returning to her country roots and the video is a simple one. It follows Swift walking the cobblestone streets of Paris and meeting a new potential love interest in a café.
In describing the video before it premiered, Swift told MTV “It’s gonna be, like, a love letter to Paris, ’cause it’s just the city and this story line of somebody moving on and finding yourself again.”
About the song, she explained to Good Morning America last month, it is “about […] when you’ve gotten through a really bad relationship and you finally dust yourself off and go on that first day after a horrible breakup and the vulnerability that goes along with all of that.”
Not only is Swift enjoying the release of her new album and video, but she also has the good fortune of being close to selling 1 million copies in the first week of Red’s release. If the projections prove to be accurate, she will be the first female performer in the Nielson Soundscan era, which began in 1991, to have done so twice. Her last album, Speak Now, topped the million-mark in its first week, according to Billboard.
