A Russian doctor has been fired over the death of a patient he punched fatally on December 29th. He faces up to two years in prison.
The surveillance video that shows the confrontation between the doctor and patient was only recently made public. In the video, you can see the doctor, who has since been identified as Ilya Zelendinov, dragging a shirtless patient off the examining table and into another room.
The now-deceased patient, identified as 56-year-old Tevgeny Bakhtin, had kicked a nurse earlier in the day for unknown reasons. In the video, Dr, Zelendinov confronts Bakhtin, asking, “Why did you touch the nurse?”
Things get strange as a third man comes onto the scene, trying to intercept the fight. Dr. Zelendinov begins beating him. The doctor then whips around and goes after Bakhtin again, this time punching him in the head/face. After he’s punched, Bakhtin falls to the ground and hits his head.
The fightdoesn’t end there, though. The third man tries to intervene again, but the doctor punches him until he’s in fetal position in the corner.
Belgorod’s Investigative Committee issued a statement Saturday saying thatTevgeny Bakhtin’s cause of death was “trauma to the skull and brain from hitting the back of the head on the hard surface of the floor.”
The doctor was not only fired from his job but could face up to two years in prison. He’s currently under house arrest.
Investigators said there was “no grounds to say that the doctor wanted to murder the patient,” so he’s only suspected of causing death through negligence.
What do you think should happen to this doctor that the Russian media is now calling “the boxer doctor?”
