Surveillance footage captured during a convenience store robbery in Lexington, Kentucky shows the store clerk taking one of the robbers’ guns and using it to force the would-be thief out of the store.
According to ABC 36, 21-year-old Zara Adil was working the cash register at the Discount Tobacco Zone store Friday night when two masked men entered. One of them, who had a gun, went to her side of the checkout counter and demanded she open the register. While the robber went to grab the cash, Adil noticed him set his gun down.
“I picked up the gun and pointed it at the second guy and said you run or I will shoot you,” said Adil.
The second man ran off, leaving Adil and the first man to fight for the gun. During the struggle, Adil shot the man in the shoulder.
“I asked him why he was doing this, and he just said let me go, let me go,” she said later.
She told him she would let him go if he left the money, but the injured man still lunged for the cash register. Adil finally forced him out of the store without any of the cash.
“If more people stand up, they won’t have that much courage to go around and do what they’re doing,” Adil said, concerning a recent rise in robberies in Lexington in recent months.
