WATCH: Florida Pro-Gun Activist Mom Shot by Her Four-Year-Old Son

A Florida pro-gun mom was accidentally shot by her four-year-old son while driving on a local highway. The incident occurred after the toddler somehow found a loaded pistol in the car, and fired. Jamie Gilt was hit in the back as she drove.

The incident occurred the day after Gilt, 31, posted to social media about how her son “gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22.”

She also runs a Facebook page dedicated to pro-gun opinions called “Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense.”

According to reports, the child managed to get a hold of a .45 caliber handgun through the back of the driver’s seat. It is not clear how he accessed the weapon, or if he was improperly strapped into his booster seat at the time it happened, although when help arrived he was not secured.

Local deputies noticed Gilt’s truck and horse trailer stopped in lanes of traffic, and realized she was in distress. Fortunately, they were able to rush her to the hospital and she is expected to survive her injuries.

Under Florida law it is a misdemeanor to store or leave firearms in a way where a child can gain access to it.

Gilt has frequently posts photos of her firearms to social media, in one picture calling a handgun her “new toy.”
