The art of “knick-knacking” in Ireland is exactly the same as “Ding Dong Ditch” in America. You ring the doorbell on a home and then run away before its occupants can answer the door.
It is safe to say that the majority of adults who were kids in the 70s, 80s, and 90s engaged in such mischievous activities.
Not long ago, Olive Smyth, 82, of Ireland was egged on by her her son Mark to give it a try. Mark told the Irish Mirror that he brought his mother to Stoneybatter, Dublin where she had grown up. His father had just passed away, and he was trying to cheer Olive up.
As you’ll quickly notice in the video above, the moment was beautiful and silly. It’s a perfect reminder that the child within never dies. It’s simply waiting for us all to do something a little goofy and unexpected.
