Marnie Harvey is a regular 17-year-old girl with hopes and dreams like all her friends. However, Harvey suffers from a rare condition that baffles even the most seasoned doctors. This mystery condition causes thick blood to ooze out of both her eyes, ears and other orifices five times a day.
Strangely enough, Harvey wasn’t born with this condition. It only began in 2013, when she was only 13 years old. One day she suddenly became unwell and started to cough up blood. She was sent for a chest scan, which came back clear, but the worrying symptom continued for two years. Soon after the chest pains, she began having migraines. She woke up one morning to blood splatters all over her pillows.
“I had blood all over my face and a shooting pain behind my eyes,” she explains. “I felt my way downstairs and my parents, brother and sister all screamed when they saw me. My brother called an ambulance.”
Harvey’s mother took her to the doctor. Tests were fun to diagnose the illness, but no cause was found for why her daughter was seeping blood.
For the next two years, Harvey went for more tests and was put on special diets, which didn’t help. Her condition has slowly grown worse. She new bleeds from her eyes, ears, nose and fingernails up to five times a day. In the past few weeks, she’s begun bleeding from her tongue and throat.
She is hoping someone out there may read an article about her and help her. For now, doctors of all stripes are thoroughly confused as to why this is happening to Harvey, who missed so many days of school that she had to leave before finishing. Her dream was to become a nurse.
Harvey’s condition has also forced her to give up a hairdressing school and a retail job because she “couldn’t go and bleed everywhere.”
Instead of focusing on a career and finding a boyfriend, this unfortunate girl’s life is on hold while she wakes up to bruises all over her body, which doctors (again) cannot explain.
What’s strangest about Harvey’s case is that tests show she’s quite healthy for the most part.
Passed from specialist to specialist, Harvey’s heard some pretty out-there diagnoses: “Specialists bring their students to have a look at me,” she explains. “One student suggested stigmata – the religious belief it’s the representation of the blood of Jesus.”
Harvey has also had to stay off Facebook after taunting over her condition. People have begun rumors that she suffers from the Ebola virus or that she has a blood cancer.
The truth is, no one knows what’s wrong with Marney Harvey, who doctors have nicknamed “The Mystery Girl.”
Despite this fact, Harvey is not the only one to suffer from this condition. There is another woman, in Hawaii, with the same problem (watch her video below):
