WATCH: Mike Rice Abuses College Basketball Players During Practice

Mike Rice, Rutgers Basketball coach, is now under fire after ESPN’s show “Outside the Lines” aired troubling footage of Rice mistreating his players during practice.

Several dozen hours of video footage taken during practices show Rice throwing basketballs from close range at player’s heads and bodies, shoving and kicking them, and hurling obscenities and homophobic slurs.

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti had been made aware of the situation during the 2011-2012 season. Rice was then fined $50,000 and suspended for three games. Pernetti didn’t report the severity of Rice’s behavior. It wasn’t until ESPN aired the footage and interviewed former director of ¬†player development Erik Murdock that the public was made fully aware of the situation.

“He came in and he choked the life out of the team — he took their games and their confidence away,” Murdock said.

At the end of the season, Pernetti told The Newark Star-Ledger that Rice will be coming back.

What are your thoughts? Should rice continue as head coach?

Update: According to latest reports by the AP, Mike Rice has been fired for his conduct. A Rutgers official released the following statement: “Based upon recently revealed information and a review of previously discovered issues, Rutgers has terminated the contract of Mike Rice.”
