Can you believe it’s been 10 years since No Doubt put out an album? It seems strange, given that lead singer Gwen Stefani went on to produce her own singing career, but it’s true; No Doubt has been silent as a band in the creative department for a decade. Now Stefani, along with Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal, and Adrian Young are back, and their first single and accompanying music video were released today.
The track, entitled “Settle Down,” holds the same pop/rock sensibility that made No Doubt famous for so many years, but there’s a distinct sense of maturity involved. It makes sense, as the band members have gone on to become parents in their own right. In a special that premiered tonight on E!– appropriately named No Doubt: Settle Down– interviewer Ryan Seacrest asked Stefani, Kanal, Dumont and Young about the meaning behind “Settle Down.”
“I hate talking about what the songs are about because I feel like I already put so much into the song, of myself, but I think that song, and a lot of the record, is just about being overwhelmed by so much going on and how to balance all of it,” Stefani said. “That’d be a good way of summing it up.”
