Rihanna has released yet another exceptional and mesmerizing music video that has us scratching our heads baffled, but in awe.
In late September songstress Rihanna released her single “Diamonds” from her new album, Unapologetic out Monday, November 19. Today, we get to see the dramatic official music video for the song.
Rihanna sings, “Shine bright like a diamond” filmed in black and white, her hand covered in diamonds. The scenes then gallivant between images of her lying in water, standing in the desert with wild horses, running in the dark while being chased by car headlights, smoking something unidentifiable, seeing a man on fire in the middle of a street riot, and staring at the sky (looking for a star?). Each of the clips melt into the next, and by the end of the video we’re wondering how these scenes relate to the lyrics.
Rihanna explained in a promotional video,”With ‘Diamonds,’ it was just a series of vignettes that we put together to help get the emotion across throughout the song,” adding that she and director Anthony Mandler wanted “little cutaways of interactions that would give you the right emotion.”
What does it all mean though? Check it out and let us know what you think!
