Forgive us for being a little late on this. We’d written about the release date for Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby being pushed to summer of next year, but we didn’t know a magnificent trailer was already out. Then this weekend we went and saw Argo— which is an insanely good film getting Oscar buzz that you should definitely go see it at once– and before that movie started we caught this trailer.
It’s absolutely stunning. From set, wardrobe and hair design to the cinematography and characters, this looks like it’s going to be a great movie for 2013. (Why it’s in 3D, we don’t know. Not huge fans of the fad, but we can just as easily see a print sans-glasses and be happy.) In case you didn’t get a proper education, it is based on the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which takes place from the Roaring Twenties until the Wall Street Crash of 1929. And, if done properly (which we think it will be, given Luhrmann’s past credits like Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge!), may be a very fitting allegory to what’s happening in the world today. The movie adaptation stars Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role of Jay Gatsby.
Check out the trailer and share in the excitement.
