You know the chameleon, sure, but meet the cephalopod — a master of camouflage to end all masters of camouflage. Cephalopods are a class of mollusks including a wide array of species within the subcategories of squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish.
Most of us know these species have tentacles, big black eyes and oversized heads, but you might not have been aware that they also have a unique ability to change the brightness and pattern of their skin to match their backgrounds. The ability is likely related to unusual cells that reflect light from their environment.
