On August 4, 1991, the doomed MTS Oceanos sank off South Africa’s eastern coast.
There were 500 passengers aboard the cruise ship when it took on water during a storm. Fortunately, everyone was able to escape to safety.
Although Captain Yiannis Avranas and four of his top officers were cowards and abandoned ship before assisting their passengers, one crew member stepped up. Moss Hills, a musician on the ship, took action and began the evacuation process, including getting passengers into lifeboats, before things began taking a turn for the worst.
I’ve never spent a moment on a cruise ship, and after watching the above video, I’m completely fine if it stays that way! It would sure be a haunting way to die.
