The big entertainment moment this weekend wasn’t the box office battle between Magic Mike and Ted, or whether Brave would shoot through Madagascar 3’s winning streak once more. Instead, the focus was on downtown Los Angeles at the 2012 BET awards, and the network’s tribute to the late singer-actress Whitney Houston.
Performances from Brandy, Monica and Chaka Khan, and the reunion of Houston’s Waiting to Exhale costars Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon were major moments in themselves. However, along with the usual inclusion of a photo tribute to Houston, was a performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by the late singer’s mother Cissy Houston.
