If you watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians during Kim’s pregnancy with North, you know that she, like many women, was ingesting her own placenta (in pill form) as a way to ward off postpartum depression. She was also feverishly working hard on getting pregnant again, revealing that she and husband, Kanye West, were having sex “500 times a day.”
Unfortunately, Kim and Kanye’s plans for a second baby need to be reconsidered. On the show, she told Kanye that her doctors said her own “placenta grew into [her] uterus,” making it very unlikely that she will ever be able to carry another baby. If Kim, 34, does conceive again, giving birth may risk her life or (at the very least) require that doctors perform emergency surgery to remove her entire uterus right after delivery.
Doctors are telling Kim to consider surrogacy as the safest option for having another child.
Kim’s condition is called “Placenta Accreta,” which occurs when blood vessels and the placenta attach itself too deeply into the wall of the uterus. The cause of the condition is unknown, and there is no treatment for it. A hysterectomy is sometimes required for women with severe cases.
