Kenlissa Jones, 23, is facing murder charges after taking an abortion pill to kill the five-and-a-half-month old baby growing in her belly. It’s a crime that is punishable by life imprisonment or death.
According to a police report, the Georgia mother purchased a drug called Cytotec off the Internet from a retailer in Canada. Cytotec is used to treat and reduce stomach ulcers, but also as a highly-effective abortion method.
“Once she took those pills, from the way I’m understanding it, she was in a world of hurt for a while,” explained her brother, Rico Riggins.
After taking four of the pills, Jones ended up delivering the baby in her car on the way to the hospital. It stayed alive for approximately 30 minutes before dying.
Jones was arrested and placed in the Dougherty County Jail without bond, however, she only spent three days in jail before having a prosecutor drop the charge on Wednesday.
“Georgia law presently does not permit prosecution of Ms. Jones for any alleged acts related to the end of her pregnancy,” the prosecutor’s statement said.
Allegedly, even abortion opponents were shocked by the murder charge against Jones.
She still faces a misdemeanor charge for possessing a dangerous drug.
