Woman Finds Long-Lost Mother, Discovers She’s Married to Her Own Brother

This may not be the first time we’ve heard a story like this, but it’s just as horrifying every time it happens.

A Brazilian woman’s life-long wish to find her biological mother was fulfilled recently when she went on Radio Globo’s The Time is Now, a show that finds and reunites long-lost family members. However, the excitement quickly turned into shock when she learned she had a brother she never knew about and that brother happened to be the man she had been married to for seven years.

The 39-year old woman, Adriana, and her 37-year-old brother Leandro, were both given up as babies and never knew who their real mother was. Ten years ago the two — who had no idea they were related by blood — met, and subsequently fell in love, got married and had a baby.

So when Adriana finally connected with her mother and found that she not only had a younger brother, but that he also had the same name as her husband, the dots were connected and the awful coincidence was brought to light.

Adriana admitted the pair knew they had the same woman’s name on their birth certificates listed as the mother, but they didn’t think it was all that alarming.

“We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence,” she explained.

Even though news like this must be hard to receive, Adriana and Leandro say they are very much in love with each other and plan to stay together.
