In an effort to further the dialog between creationists and scientists, Bill Nye (“The Science Guy”) and Ken Ham, the founder of the Creationism Museum, faced off in Petersburg, Ky. in front of 800 audience members and millions of online viewers.
The debate also opened up the age-old question, “How did we get here?”
Ham quickly made it known that he believes the Bible is the word of God. “I admit that’s where I start from.” This belief leads him to conclude that the world is only 6,000 years old.
Nye on the other hand, avidly disagrees with Ham’s conclusions.
“If you insist the natural laws have changed, for lack of a better word, that’s magical,” declared Nye. “Your interpretations of a book written thousands of years ago… is more compelling for you than everything that I can observe in the world around me.”
In response, Ham argued throughout the evening that the Bible fills in the gaps. “I claim there’s only one infallible dating method — a witness who was there and who knows everything and who told us — that’s the word of God.”
