For a 26-year-old mother from North Carolina, the world as she knows it is about to completely change.
Marie Holmes purchased one of the three winning tickets in Wednesday’s Powerball lottery drawing at Scotchman convenience store in Shallotte. Her take home of the $564 million jackpot? According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, approximately $188 million.
She recently had to quit her jobs at Walmart and McDonald’s to care for her children, one of whom suffers from cerebral palsy, reported FOX 2.
“I don’t think it’s really hit me,” she explained. “I guess when it hits my account is when it’s really going to hit me, but I’m thankful that I can bless my kids with something that I didn’t have.”
The win is North Carolina’s fourth ticket that has claimed a Powerball jackpot.
