The body of a 26-year-old woman has mysteriously gone missing just a few hours after her funeral service, according to reports. The body of Julie Mott, who passed away after battling with cystic fibrosis, was last seen at a San Antonio, Texas funeral home following her service.
Just a few hours later her body was taken from her casket, KEN5 News reported.
“We just want our daughter’s remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief,” said Tim Mott, Julie’s father.
The body and casket were apparently left in a private visitation area in the back of the funeral home, and the facility was locked at 4:30 p.m.
Authorities believe the body was removed sometime before that time, and after the conclusion of the service at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The casket showed visible signs of being forced, but authorities currently don’t have any solid leads and are looking for more information.
People.com reported that the funeral home director believes whoever stole her body may have done so due to strong opposition to cremation.
The family is offering a $20,000 reward for information regarding the case.
